We do not have to teach what is in WIDA Standards. They are simply an example of language progression.
What is Academic Language and why do I need to know?
Social Language will take ELLs 3-5 years to acquire.
Academic Language will take 5-7 years to acquire, 7-9 if language proficiency in L1 is limited.
